셀 수 없는 물건들이 생산되고 대양을 누비면서 이동한다. 어디엔가 도착되어 소비되고 남은 것은 버려진다. 이 것이 땅 위에만 머물리 없으니 바다로 밀려날 수 밖에. 생명체들도 하나 둘 씩 밀려나고 사라진다. 세계화를 꺼리낌 없이 밀어붙인 일련의 자본 세력. 더 많이 그리고 더 멀리. Countless things are produced and travel around the ocean. It arrives somewhere and is consumed, and what’s left is thrown away. It can’t just stay on the ground, so it has to be pushed out to sea. Living things are also pushed out and disappear. A series of capitalist forces that pushed globalization forward without hesitation. More and further.

연이은 콘크리트 구조물들은 해가 내려쬐도 스스로 지탱하고 떠받치는데 연연하다. 한강변은 해를 거듭하며 계속 다듬어져 변해 간다. 우리는 사라져가는 것들에 점점 더 시선을 멀리 하고, 그 무관심은 아무런 놀라움 없이 그냥 지나친다. The continuous concrete structures are struggling to support and sustain themselves even when the sun is shining. The riverside of the Han river continues to be refined and changed year by year. We look further and further away at things that are disappearing, and the indifference just goes by without any surprise.

차를 타고 대교를 한번 들어서면 되돌아 빠져나올 수 없고 앞으로만 나아가야 한다. 각자의 길은 얼핏 무수히 많은 선택들이 있는 것 같지만 어쩌면 이렇게 빠져나갈 수 없는 단 하나 뿐인 길 일 수 있다. Once you enter the bridge by car, you cannot get out of it, and you must only move forward. At first glance, each path seems to have a myriad of choices, but it may be the only path that cannot be escaped like this.

물은 어떤 형태에도 스스로 맞추고 그 어느 편도 들지 않는다. 그냥 증발했다가 다시 떨어진다. 폭이 넓은 서울의 한강. 넓고 관대해 보이지만 표면은 끊임없이 요동치고, 우리의 첩첩한 과오들을 침묵으로 덮어 싼다. <지금>의 무서운 침묵이 <저 너머>에서도 침묵으로 이어질까. Water adapts itself to any form and takes no sides. It just evaporates and falls back down again. The wide Han river in Seoul. It looks spacious and generous, but the surface is constantly fluctuating and covers our sticky mistakes with silence. Will the scary silence of <Now> lead to silence in “Beyond” as well.

문명은 끊임없이 더 빠른 걸 갈구한다. 경쟁에서 뒤쳐지면 살아남기 어렵기 때문이기도 하지만 인류 문명 자체가 빠른 것에 도취되고 매력을 느낀다. Civilization constantly craves something faster. It is because it’s hard to survive if you fall behind in competition, but human civilization itself is intoxicated and attracted to being fast.

시인 임화의 시 <강가로 가자>에서, "강물은 그 모양은 커녕 숨소리도 안 들려준다." 서울에서 태어나셨기에 고향인 서울에 편히 쉬셨으면 Poet <LimHwa>, at this poem <Let’s go to the river>. “the river doesn’t even reveal its shape, and doesn’t let his breath be heard” Since he was born in Seoul, I hope he rests comfortably in his hometown of Seoul.

어미 코뿔소는 철길 한 복판에 움직이지 않고 서 있고 새끼 코뿔소는 어미에게 다가서지 못하고 기다리고 있다. 기차가 다가오는데 어미는 이를 모르는 것 같다. The mother rhino stands motionless in the middle of the railroad track and the baby rhino waits unable to reach her mother. A train is approaching, but the mother doesn’t seem to notice.

종착역에서 밖으로 나올 때, 그 곳이 종착역 출구 인지를 과연 인식이나 할 수 있을지 의문이다. 그 곳으로 가고 있다는 생각 자체를 원하지 않는다. When you exit the terminal station, it is questionable whether you will be able to recognize that it is the terminal station exit. We don’t even want to think about going there.
